Weekend is gone

It's Sunday night already... My bed is calling me... It's loud and clear... Newly washed soft flannel sheets(not ironed but who cares), still warm from the dryer and waiting for me. Before going to bed, I need to take a minute to think what I've done on the weekend.

I worked on Saturday, but got to meet with my friends for a good chat, good food and good time...Then came home and started to make costers with bead embroidery.

On Sunday morning, had a warm oatmeal brakfast with brown sugar, cinnamon and walnuts. It was just what I need on a cold winter morning. Then talked to my mom, got some laundry done, meet with friends, went to grocery shop on the way back home, some more laundry, cooked the supper, watched a movie after supper, read the newspapers on the internet and just heard that my bed is calling me...

Oh, and I wore this new heart necklace first time on this weekend. Isn't it pretty ?

Pilaf with anchovy

Today I want to show you a fish dish which my mother-in-law cooked for us when we were in Turkey. It is called "Hamsili Pilav" (Pilaf with European anchovy). Hamsi (Eurpoean anchovy) is a small fish which is caught on the coasts of Black Sea. This dish is traditional to the Turkey's Black Sea region. The pilaf is made with rice, onions, pinenuts, dried currants, allspice, cinnamon, black pepper, salt and olive oil. First the bones and heads of the fish are removed and the pilaf is cooked. In a baking dish, fillets of Hamsi are arranged as one layer. Then the cooked pilaf is put on top of these. After another layer of Hamsi, it is baked in the oven until the fish is done. It is delicious...

Necklaces

I like necklaces, I like wearing them and I like making them. They add as much/less sparkle/color as you want to whatever you wear...I wanted to post the photos of the necklaces that I've made recently. They are pretty simple. But photographing them is not as simple as it seems... I tried different compositions...

on the lamp shade... no, I don't like it...

on the lamp shade but the lamp is turned on... I don't like that either...

on the corner of the headboard...nope..
(btw we made this headboard ourselves a couple of years ago. From distance, it looks perfect but you can see how awful the corners are in this detail picture)
on the back of the chair... this isn't working either...

ok...I have an idea...I'll take pictures while wearing them...oh oh...don't like it...

i'll put them on my red shawl and take the picture...Himmm, this looks a little bit better....
Ok, don't tell me, I know, I need to improve my photography skills...(note to self: google "photography skills" and read and learn.)
Have a good week everyone...

Pretty things

Here are somethings that I brought back from vacation, which are very pretty, which make me smile, which I love to see around the house for years to come...

the tablecloth, my mom made for me...
pottery vases with birds, more birds....
and a pottery pomegranate, which I can't keep my hands off from it's shiny surface...

I'm back

After a long time, I'm back... I'm back from the vacation... I'm back home... I'm back to work... I'm back to blogging...

We arrived to Ottawa on last Wednesday at midnight but our luggage didn't. We didn't sleep almost 24 hours and were extremely tired. The next day we had to drive to NYC (8 hours drive) because I had a doctor's appointment on Friday. We drove back home after the appointment and arrived around 11pm. Our luggage arrived home on Saturday morning.

As you can imagine I spend most of the weekend sleeping. Then on Monday, I had a little sore-throat and coughing. My husband had headache and sneezing. Monday night both of us got worse and we couldn't go to work on Tuesday. All I want to have are a bowl of soup and a glass of orange juice... We felt miserable and achy all day, and it still doesn't want to go away.

This is not the first post of the New Year that I wanted to write, but unfortunatelly that's what happened since we were back. I promise, I'll post more cheerfull posts and photos later...
